Lawn Care - Our Approach

At Mapstone Property Solutions, we recognize the contradiction in the outdoor service world - we contractors often present ourselves as advocates of the environment, yet we burn through gas, diesel, and other consumable at an alarming rate. Further, the end product is often an inefficient monocrop, Kentucky Bluegrass, with a small selection of non-native plantings and toxic ground cover (colored mulch). With that being said, we love our outdoor spaces! Our goal is to create and maintain these cherished spaces in the most environmentally responsible way possible. Here are some things we do that set us apart from a traditional approach to lawn care and landscape.

  • No gas hand tools for regular maintenance work - 2 stroke engines, found in chainsaws, trimmers, blowers etc, are notorious polluters, to the point some states are implementing bans on new sales, including MN. We believe it is most responsible to implement this change before being forced to. This also means no noisy blowers and trimmers on your property!

  • We use electric push mowers when possible - gas mowers are still required at certain properties as technology continues to develop in commercial electric mowers. We’ll let you know if it’s possible to push mow or if we’ll have to use a large gas machine for the time being.

  • We encourage mechanical fixes before chemical fixes to your lawn - we believe the single best thing you can do for your lawn is annual aeration and over-seeding. This, along with regular watering, should be sufficient for most lawns to maintain their health. When more help is needed, we work with trusted local contractors to develop a minimal chemical approach to fix your properties turf.

  • When possible, we implement native plants into landscapes to create deep roots which serve as carbon sinks as well as deter erosion. We also encourage cedar mulch as ground cover to avoid synthetic dye incorporation into your home and garden’s soil.
